The VRAS-99 Method
The VRAS-99 method provides a structured, repeatable approach for analysing written communications in a professional training context. It focuses on identifying linguistic and behavioural indicators within text and on organising them into a clear analytical framework that supports professional judgement.
Initial Context Review
Review the communication in its known context, including source, recipient, and situational factors, to establish a baseline understanding.
Linguistic Indicator Identification
Following context review, identify relevant words, phrases, and patterns within the communication that may be associated with threat, fixation, grievance, instability, or escalation.
Indicator Grouping and Classification
Once indicators have been identified, organise them into defined analytical categories to support structured comparison and assessment.
Relative Weighting and Distribution
After grouping indicators, assess their relative presence and distribution across categories to identify dominant or emerging patterns.
Visual Representation
To aid clarity and analytical discussion, present the indicator distribution in a visual format.
Structured Analytical Summary (BLUF)
Summarise the analysis by producing a concise report that clearly communicates key observations and considerations.
The VRAS-99 method supports structured analysis and professional judgement. It does not predict behaviour, determine intent, or replace investigative, clinical, or operational decision-making.
